The monitor is a major mechanic in Abandoned: Discovery Island. Accessible by hovering your mouse cursor over the long rectangular graphic at the bottom of the screen, it is used to check each of Discovery Island's cameras set up by the Supernatural Studies Association to keep an eye on where the suits are throughout the building.
It also serves as the player's main line of defense; by pressing [SPACEBAR] on your keyboard while viewing one of the security cameras, the current camera you are viewing is not only shut off temporarily, but it also makes a loud noise, which should lure away most suits.
